TIMBERLAND | HOW WE SERVE
Timberland first launched its Path of Service™ employee volunteer program in 1992 to give all employees a chance to engage in the community on company time. Since then Timberland employees have served over 1,000,000 hours in communities worldwide and we’re still counting.
Employees are always encouraged to serve in ways speak to their passions. To help employees use their hours, we organize two global days of service: Earth Day in the spring and Serv-a-palooza in the fall. On these two days, employees worldwide pull on their boots to make a difference. Earth Day events focus on protecting the environment and greening our communities.
Our employees may create or maintain trails, install or refurbish community gardens, help expand urban farms, clean up parks or beaches, plant trees or build outdoor classrooms for local schools. Serv-a-palooza events focus on addressing both social and environmental needs in our communities. Serv-a-palooza projects have included providing shoes and books for impoverished school children, providing a job-readiness fair to support the unemployed, refurbishing underserved schools and beautifying transitional housing facilities.
GREEN Service Standard:
Our GREEN Service Standard helps us select and manage our service projects and ensures that our commitment to the environment shines through whether or not our service event is focused on the environment.
All of our service projects will grow from the knowledge and needs of local communities.
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
Whenever possible, we use recycled and repurposed materials and then recycle all recyclable waste from our projects.
We work with service partners to engage community members in projects to ensure the community contributes and has ownership over the long term.
We make sure that everyone involved with the projects—from employees to partners and community members—understands why the projects are important and how they will be sustained.
We aim to take on projects that have a neutral impact on the environment, including those that can be easily accessed by public transportation or carpooling
